Types of Unity Plans Available and Which One to Select

Unity provides various plans ranging from free personal plans for beginners and students to paid plans for experienced professionals and also enterprise plans for large organizations.

All of Unity’s plans are royalty-free which means there is no revenue sharing with Unity. All of the plans also include -

  • Access to the Unity Ads solution, using which you can monetize your game using ads and in-app purchases.
  • Access to the Unity Asset Store which is a marketplace of assets (2D/3D animations, characters, textures etc.) that you can use in your Unity projects.
  • Access to Unity Learn which is Unity’s learning platform with courses, tutorials, quizzes etc.

In this blog post, we’ll be exploring the different types of Unity Plans available and which one you might want to select for your project.

Personal Plan

Free

The Personal plan is a free plan that is great for beginners who are starting out and want to learn the basics of Unity. It is suited for individuals and hobbyists and contains all the latest features of the core Unity platform. It also comes with a wide array of learning materials, demo projects and tutorials for getting started.

The eligibility criteria for using the Personal plan is that you should have received less than $100K in revenue or funding for your Unity projects in the last 12 months.

So if you are just getting started with Unity and want to learn the basics of the Editor, the Personal plan is the best choice for you. You can sign up for the Unity Personal plan here.

Unity Plus

$399/year per seat

Unity Plus is a paid plan which contains additional features around the core Unity platform. It is suited for professionals and small business teams and comes with splash screen customization, live-ops analytics, cloud storage and diagnostics.

The eligibility criteria for using the Plus plan is that you should have received less than $200K in revenue or funding for your Unity projects in the last 12 months.

Unity Pro

$1800/year per seat

Unity Pro is a paid plan with a complete professional offering with tools available for professionals across industries like gaming, automotive, architecture etc. It contains everything in Unity Plus along with priority customer service and access to success advisors (Unity specialists who help in finding the right resources and features for development). Unity Pro also allows deployment to closed platforms and consoles such as Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation, Google Stadia, and Microsoft Xbox.

The Pro plan also provides Unity C/C++ source code access (with read and modification rights) and the Unity build server licensing solution for offloading project builds to hardware on your network. Both benefits are available at additional costs.

Unity Enterprise

$4000/month per 20 seats

Unity Enterprise is a paid plan suited for large organizations. It contains everything in Unity Pro along with industry-specific solution toolkits or the Industrial Collection (available at an additional cost) which contains tools for visualizing 3D and CAD data in real-time including AR and VR. Some uses for this can be 3D car design and development, immersive VR training, product simulations etc.

Note: The Industrial Collection costs $2520/year per seat and includes a license of Unity Pro and more.

It also provides a dedicated customer success manager to provide guidance and help with all the resources required and on-demand training for employees.

Student Plan

The Unity Student plan is a free plan available for students that comes with the latest features of the core Unity platform, real-time cloud diagnostics and a free high-quality asset pack.

The eligibility criteria for using the Student plan is that you must be a student of age 16 years and older, be able to provide consent to the collection and processing of personal information and be enrolled in an accredited educational institution

Educator Plan

The Unity Educator Plan is a free plan available for post-secondary and K-12 educators at qualified institutions. It comes with everything in the Unity Student plan. You can sign up for the Unity Educator plan here.

Other Unity products for teachers and institutions -

  • Unity EdLab - Cloud-based access to the Unity platform with a dedicated educator portal and project-based STEAM.
  • Unity Education Grant License - Multi-seat access to the Unity platform for institutions.
